Exclamation Please Be Careful with PeoplePerHour.com

    Hello All,

Today I want to share my experience with you, I honestly do not want to discuss it, but if I did not say anything like these things just happen and will happen again. lately I started hiring online workers, I did some observation to the provider, such as a freelancer, oDesk, elance and peopleperhour, and among the four providers I chose peopleperhour, the reason they only charge a deposit fee no more than that, so I think this is good enough to start.

after a few days I received proposals, conduct an interview, and finally I found the right person. My project is only a small scale about €200, then I make a deposit as much as €100 on demand freelancer (My Sellers), The deposit automatically placed in escrow. Long story short, a few days later he sent most of his work and asked me to release the escrow on PeoplePerHour. of course without being asked I will be happy to release the money, but of course I had to check out their work first. so I told him to wait at least one day.

well after that I think he is done pretty good job, so I went to the PeoplePerHour to pay him, but guess what, I can not even login to the site, the page is still kept telling me that the email or password is incorrect, I am sure that I never change anything including the email or password, I tried to reset my password, but still it was not going well, the page still gives information about the same even though I have reset my password, then I decided to wait one day, maybe the site is experiencing problems.

on the second day I still can not get into the site, and of course I got dozens of messages from a freelancer he kept asking payment, I'm confused, I tried to contact the support of peopleperhour, I kept looking but I did not find any menus to contact support, which I find just the feedback button at the right bottom of the site. I've given up with this site and then I returned to the freelancer and offer direct payments to him. he refused loudly and cursing me, and kept accusing me of a scammer and of course he did not continue his job.

two days later, I received an email from peopleperhour. saying that "Unfortunately we have been unable to verify your account electronically" and they ask millions of documents like Passport, Driving Licence, National Identification Card (photographic), Citizenship Certificate, Tax Bill, Copy of Bank Statement, Credit or Debit Card Bank Statement. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS??, if they ask for it should be done at the beginning of the deposit process, instead of waiting nearly a week and received verbal abuse from freelancers. I certainly think twice to submit these documents, it is very dangerous if you do so nowdays,. and of course I discussed it with some friends, and I was surprised, among them are those who experience the same thing, he followed the request of Peopleperhour to send that documents. and guess what, a month later she was called by local police over her alleged crimes are referred to the documents that she had been sent, so the conclusion of these documents was leaked.

There is no other way after this I will be forced to consult with the bank.

Thank you for reading and be careful

That site is like a freelancer website in general, I've tried to convince him to continue the work and I will pay him through paypal, even if he did not believe me I could pay him via LR. I've asked for the reason, he said, he did not want to violate the terms of service of that site. but c'mon, I really do not get into the site, how can I release my money?. I've had some time to explain to him, but instead insulted me

Take screenshots of the errors you encountered, email them to him, and give him an ultimatum: You've done the best you could, and you tried to pay him, and the site's unreliable. If he refuse to engage on a more trustworthy site, like eLance, then provide his address so you can mail him a check. If he's being unreasonable, then it's his problem.

Does your local bank provide those "safe online single-use credit card numbers"? Or can you purchase one of those "preload" cards that you can put some value on? Would those work online?

    IMHO, of course.

Hi Defoug: I have had similar experiences on Elance and Odesk. I thought marketplaces are supposed to make things safe not dangerous! Things did not used to be this way on these marketplaces but the fraud protection these days is out of control. I recently signed up for a new marketplace that seems much more straight forward. You should check out Weblance, it was 1000 times easier. Knida new and they don't have a ton of users but I still recommend them over peopleperhour. Support answered all my questions in a couple hours, live chat support but I never used it. Might be worth looking into.

Re: Please Be Careful with PeoplePerHour.com

My name is Katie Kitiri and I am the Operations Director at PeoplePerHour.com.

The safety of our marketplace is paramount. As part of our security measures we occasionally have to undertake extra steps to verify payments made on our site. As is standard practice that can involve asking for trusted forms of identify where it has not been possible to sufficiently verify a payment through other means.

Due to the systems we have in place this level of verification is rare, but when it is we aim to complete this step as quickly and as painlessly as possible to minimize any inconvenience for the parties involved.

In this particular case the transaction did not pass these checks; and indeed the card details used have since been confirmed as lost or stolen.

Re: Please Be Careful with PeoplePerHour.com

I had a bad experience with the PeoplePerHour, I worked about two months there. I am working on Android projects there, and done well, price of the project for less than 400 USD, so roughly after expenses I earn 340 USD, project completed within one month less.

I initially wanted to withdraw my money, but cost to transfer quite big, to withdraw the money charged me around 25-30 USD (I forget the details). so i plan to withdraw the money if the money I had at least 800 USD, so I continue to send proposal to obtain other projects.

past one week, I checked my email and have not got any projects. so I decided to go to the PeoplePerHour to take my money, this is where the events that really make me surprised, frustrated and angry! My account seems to be blocked, without any notice and clear explanations. I check my phone history probably PeoplePerHour ever contacted me and I might accidentally miss that call, I also check my email. but no one came notice me.

I think over and over again, should I take the initiative to contact them?, yes I have no choice, although 340USD is not much money, but still it was the result of my hard work.
I tried calling them, but the answer is not human instead of a machine (of course I've pay attention to time zone, and I was convinced when I call them during working hours).
frustrating fight with gumball machines, the last step I try to send an complaint email.

I really can not believe, I need two working days to get a reply email. and most made me very disappointed the reply email contains their request to send my personal documents. they said the buyer asked for his money back, what's wrong? I've been working on that project properly, and buyers also gave a positive response to me, I was curious about this issue, so I decided to ask the buyer to clarify on this issue to me via skype. my buyer said, he never did it. so which one should I trust?

damn!! well then I do not have much choice (this may be the only option), I sent the documents they requested. but up to this day, no phone calls or reply to my email. I hope I have the ability to take revenge on those sites. as it has been written by the thread starter, I was afraid the document that I sent to them, sold or leaked by them

    please refer to the image capture email when I make contact with PeoplePerHOur below;

    pph-email.jpg

I hope PeoplePerHour appeared to show her butt in here, and we will see what defense they provide, I'm James Williams (still remember my name?). if you do not show up, well that's okay, I think more and more sites that review your scam activities.

Re: Please Be Careful with PeoplePerHour.com

I understand the company being discussed on this thread wishes for us to remove it. If there were verifiably false statements of fact I would consider that, but I firmly believe the original poster has the right to share his story.

The company is spinning all sorts of tales:

Peopleperhour.com is a marketplace where buyers pay for services provided by freelancers.
I am contacting you regarding a recent post on the website RealScam.com where one of our users has posted incorrect and misleading information about our company - http://www.realscam.com/f10/please-c...hour-com-2330/
We have asked this user for documentation in order to facilitate our security checks to pass the funds to the associated freelancer. We have only asked for this documentation since any company that moves funds online has to abide by certain policies and procedures in order to verify the parties involved in the movement of funds. Our online investigations team has flagged this user as a security concern based on a variety of internal review reasons and also because their email domain is associated with cyber crime and multiple 419 scams online (419 Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam by domain).
This user's card has since been refunded since they refused to provide us with the required documentation. We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office and we are legally obliged to protect any personal information that we hold under the Data Protection Act. We never had and never will leak any personal data provided to us.
All members on PeoplePerHour go through security checks and those who cannot be verified electronically have to provide us with this documentation as part of our basic KYC compliance procedure. These checks are part of our on-going commitment to maintaining the security of our customers’ funds.
As a result, I would like to request you to take down this post as a site administrator due to the false nature of the information posted.
    Thanks

What a load. The original poster's e-mail doesn't come up on Google at all. Europemail like all such providers have fraudulent accounts opened that are used for criminal pursuits. Assuming the Europemail address is the same one used with PPH, then they are really spinning some Texas tall tales.

Did PPH in fact refund our poster? Why would they need to do security checks if they already have the money in the account and have agreed to pay it out as the original poster directs them to? What about the poor freelancer who did the work and is waiting to be paid? Is PPH
going to see that that contractor gets his money?
The user who has posted this Please Be Careful with PeoplePerHour.com on your site has been confirmed as a fraudulent user on peopleperhour.com. We have contacted the cardholder (the real !^%^&**) and confirmed that he has never opened an account with us and that his card was not authorized to be used.
We have since informed !#$%^& (the cardholder) to contact his bank and the authorities about this situation. Since this is a confirmed online fraudster posting misleading information about our company, I request that this post be taken down for security reasons.
    Thanks

Next we get that? Now we are to believe that the real cardholder had no idea his card was used to fund this account some time back. Didn't he notice it also got refunded? We had our credit card number stolen and used after an online transaction and a restaurant visit resulted in the number being harvested. We noticed the large fraudulent charges immediately. The real cardholder would likely have noticed them as well and contacted the credit card company and authorities.

Is PPH trying to now tell us they know the actual identity of someone committing identity theft? I would like to hear more about this "confirmed online fraudster." That is exactly why RS exists! And again, what security risks is presented by allowing this thread to stay up???

Thank you for your understanding Soapboxmom, I was very surprised with PeoplePerHour statement above.
what did they say? is it true that they say to you that I "fraudulent user"?

To PeoplePerHour: let me guess, You are well aware to check scam forums every day to make sure your business is still safe? or you may even make a list of forums that discuss your deeds and then diligently to contact the admin of the forum and beg in order to bleed the post removed. now, the more brightly lit who you really are. do you feel was so desperate because your secret come out?, then launched a ridiculous accusation to me?

since when did you contact me? I checking my email every day and I am sure my eyes still normal to see the words "PeoplePerHour", and if not mistaken I also included my phone number in my profile, but as far as I know, I never get a call from country code +44

and hell what now? of course my money will return sooner or later, because I've complained all are to the Bank, even if you do not return it, my bank will take it by force. but, I appreciate your intentions who want to return my money.

but please calm down a bit and listen "THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM BECAUSE MY MONEY RETURNED OR NOT, IT'S ALL ABOUT TRUST, MY PROJECT, DO YOU EVER THINK ABOUT MY PROJECT FOR A MOMENT? DO YOU KNOW WHAT MY LOSS BECAUSE THIS PROJECT DOES NOT GET COMPLETED? AND ABOVE IT ALL, THIS IS MY FIRST TIME INSULTED BY MY WORKERS BECAUSE I CONSIDERED NOT RELEASE ESCROW ON PEOPLEPERHOUR, AND THIS IS MY FIRST EXPERIENCE ACCUSED OF AS FRAUDULENT USER"

I was really disappointed with your treatment, instead of apologizing to the detriment of user, now you are actually looking for an excuse defense and a very silly accusation.

Okay now that you want a war, is not it? I will serve you, I will tell the world, so the victims will come to this forum or other forums to share their bad experiences on PeoplePerHour

NOTE::::: europemail is a free email at mail[dot]com, where thousands of people signed up on that domain, based on your accusations, meaning each person who signed up with the email europemail domain is fraudulent user, are you kind an idiot?

    what a mess.

Re: Please Be Careful with PeoplePerHour.com

Yesterday we saw the funding announcement of HandyBook, and it appears this whole area of booking labour fast is really starting to take off. PeoplePerHour, a sort of ‘European E-Lance’ emerged in 2008, scored a seed round then secured VC round from Index ventures. Now it’s announcing a further £2M ($3.2M) investment from Index, and boosting its management team with new appointments including CFO David Engel, former financial Director at Skype and Yahoo Europe.

In addition it’s launched it own iPhone app has gone through some significant changes, launching a new website in August with a new UI and a new product called ‘Hourlies’ which allows anyone to buy and sell pre-packaged services at a fixed price in bundles, starting from one hour. It’s a different take on the old RFP model and allows anyone to sell any kind of hour. We’l let your imagination run with that thought. That means it it’s the only such e-lance type site with a an RFP and supply driven model.

Hourlies launched in August and popular categories include design, writing and digital but also someone making you a custom made dog coat in three hours for £25, or someone to write your CV from scratch in one hour for £10, says the company.

Founder and CEO Xenios Thrasyvoulou says they want to “make buying and selling of services as easy and widespread as buying on Amazon or eBay”.

David Engel, formerly the FD of Skype and Yahoo! Europe has now joined as CFO and Katie Kitiri, formerly the Head of Customer Service, Trust & Safety at Gumtree, joined as Director of Operations.

PeoplePerHour Secures $3.2M From Index Ventures, New Hires, New iOS App | TechCrunch

Also the Who Is on this peopleperhour.com is hiding under protection of Tucows. No identification of owner. I was trying to see if freelancer.com had perhaps purchased it also but no proof yet.

Re: Please Be Careful with PeoplePerHour.com

how should I assess PeoplePerHour?, I think this company (if it is really firm, I doubt) is a freelance service websites which the most arrogant I've ever used. at first I used this site I am very excited because I think is very easy to get a project, I could say this because just joined for a month with this site, I immediately get the project. in the process of early to mid-stage, I create invoices for payment for the first stage of my work. he paid me (technically he had paid me in the beginning of the contract, but it stored in an escrow system, so rather he released escrow).

after a few days I've done everything and intend to send all, because of this project I would get extra money around 350-400 USD (I forget the exact number, this incident was over three months ago). but I can not send all files because I can not logging on to that site?. without a long wait I immediately contacted the PeoplePerHour. screenshot below can explain everything.
    email-1-peopleperhour.jpg
at first I thought why PeoplePerHour request these documents, I mean this is like the process of digital currency exchange. if I kept worrying I might have to wait until I was 80 years old. so I decided to believe in this site and submit my documents.
    email-2-me.jpg
until now I have never received any response from PeoplePerHour, I am very confused with this incident, wasting my time, working without being paid, I am not a slave.

P.S. after I read post from the OP, that the documents leaked, tomorrow I have to take care of all these

Re: Please Be Careful with PeoplePerHour.com

I can confirm the information in this thread is correct. I've been happily using people per hour for some months and have paid out £780 through the website, but all of a sudden I'm unable to make payments for the two active workstreams I have on the site.

After waiting 19 hours for a response from their support team I'm now being asked to provide my passport, utility bills, debit card, bank statement, and paypal statement in order to 'verify' me to make payments again. All this on the very thin and incorrect explanation that I attempted to use a different card than the now expired one I have registered on the site when paypal failed to work.

Support are now saying they will escalate the issue, but are not being responsive over email or twitter.

Why on earth you would block an existing user from actually paying for work I have no idea.

    Hi Katie,

I've been happily using people per hour for some months and have paid out £780 through the website, but all of a sudden I'm unable to make payments for the two active workstreams I have on the site. Why you would do this without alerting the user to what the problem actually is I have no idea, I thought the payment gateway was simply broken.

After waiting 19 hours for a response from your support team (and being ignored on twitter) I'm now being asked to provide my passport, utility bills, debit card, bank statement, and paypal statement in order to 'verify' me to make payments again. All this on the very thin and incorrect explanation that I attempted to use a different card than the now expired one I have registered on the site when paypal (my normal payment method) failed to work three times in succession.

I would not need to provide this much information to open a credit account in the UK, so why on earth should I provide enough information to forge my identity to someone working over zendesk somewhere in Asia? It is up to my bank or paypal to verify my identity, not your organisation. Support are now saying they will escalate the issue, but are not being responsive over email or twitter and I have two important active projects that I'm unable to pay for!

Why on earth you would block an existing user with good feedback from actually paying for work I have no idea, but you need to sort this out urgently.

Re: Please Be Careful with PeoplePerHour.com

I read this forum too late, but I would like to share my bad experience with everyone. Maybe this will help others to avoid losses.

I registered at PeoplePerHour.com last year in November. I hoped that I will get job from their users. After sending couple of proposals a guy with an eBay store awarded the job to me and paid 100GBP into the escrow of PPH. I was happy and started to work immediately. This was a SEO project. The guy never wanted to cooperate with me, didn't know anything about SEO and how it works. I tried to explain him anything and communicated him that this sort of off-site seo we were doing him will take 6 month to get results. After 30 days I raised my invoice and asked him to release the payment. Although he never complained about anything, the tasks that were carried out was included in the proposal and they were done, he refused to pay, rejected my invoice and asked a refund of the escrow payment. I didn't have right to reject his refund request or open a dispute against him as I was new on PPH. I contacted PPH customer support and told them about the situation. They said I should give back the money and let him go as I am a new user and I have no right to open dispute. How on earth can this happened, that someone who has no understanding about something stays that a service is wrong and I didn't get paid. He got several business articles and also press release about his store, I already paid the writers and every cost and at the end I didn't get anything. I wrote them this is not acceptable and I will contact local authorities if they give back the deposit to customer. After this they rejected the refund request, but the guy asked it again. After all the email changes with customer support they gave back the money to customer and I got nothing for 30 days of work. Customer support wrote me the below email as an explanation:

    Hello Adrienn
    Thank you for your message.
I'm very sorry to hear this happened. In this case it was not that PPH decided against you, but that Dan's refund was processed automatically after a payment period of three working days. Since the refund request was not disputed at any point, it remained pending until it paid out automatically. This is what happens in instances like this.
We deeply regret the inconvenience, but we are unable to allocate funds outside the WorkStream.
Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.
    Thanks
    Panos

First time it wasn't done automatically!! It is a SCAM site causing lot of problems to honest people. I am still trying to find out what can I do as a British company to report both customer and PPH to local authorities. I am not a slave to work 30 days long for nothing!! They were taking DEPOSIT from customer on behalf of me, that should be an insurance for me that I will get paid at the end.

SCAM PeoplePerHour.com - READ my story before using them !

    This is my story:

I have signed up to them based on the well organized platform, everything goes well , i found a job and delivered fast

Client deposited to escrow for my hard work, and then i delivered work to client !

HERE IT COMES THE PROBLEM !
After sending the work and money in the escrow of PPH they asked to verify my account with national ID , proof of address , etc . Nothing scary here so I DID !

After doing everything they asked me THEY DIDIN`T send me the cash for my work because as they say , the client didin`t verified his account and they can`t deliver the cash !

SO BASICLY I HAVE BENN SCAMMED , because client paid , and i delivered work and money is on PPH escrow for over a month . I have contacted them over and over and they REFUSE TO PAY ME , because as PPH say client didin`t verified his account. How is this my fault ? Most probably client doesn`t care about this because he got his work done and he also paid with escrow !

I HAVE DELIVERED THE WORK , CLIENT PAID Its a 250 Pounds hole in my pocket for a work that client was satisfied with !

DON`T USE THIS SCAMMERS ! HOPE their staff see this and do what is right ! I will post my story on every forum and blog until nobody uses them anymore ! BEWARE !

    Our Purpose - PeoplePerHour.com BlogPeoplePerHour.com Blog

Xenios says he started PPH when he came out of university and was disillusioned with the engineering firm job he got ( eighteen months as a trainee ) and so he contacted another class mate from university and quit this firm the name of which he does not mention siscx months in
In those early days I brought in a dear friend, schoolmate and colleague from University, and one of the smartest people I knew – Simos – to act as CTO
    His profile
Xenios T.'s profile - Artist, Lover of life and accidental fou... - PeoplePerHour.com

does not mention what university he claims to have go to or when he graduated.
    Same for Simos his "classmate"
    Simos K.'s profile - Founder Yumbles.com - PeoplePerHour.com

Nor is there any information on their site about their board
    Our Board Archives - PeoplePerHour.com BlogPeoplePerHour.com Blog

    PEOPLE PER HOUR LTD

    Company number 06369697

    Registered office address
C/O SPEECHLY BIRCHAM, 6 New Street Square, London, EC4A 3LX

Which means it is run through a law firms office
    Charles Russell Speechlys in London

PPH was incorporated 12 Sept 2007 by James Carter although it might have been shelved and bought later by Xenios. Xenios moved in in 2007 when he became a Director. His address was Flat 9 , 11 Queensgate Gardens SW7 5LY
Which had been sold on 6 May 2006 for £495,000
Xenios is a Cypriot and was then Directur of Arcarnus Limited No 4922212

James Carter the original founder/director then became Secretary.

They then issued a few million penny shares Ill go intot details later owned by Xenios ( 156,255) and other people and companies in Greece, the Marshall Islands, Dubai ( Taxas Ventures has about 700,000), Cyprus ~ offshore entities??

All worth a look at. Again later.

    But
    1. Simos the Classmate isnt listed as far as I know
    2. The company has been around for over eight years
    3. It was not set up by Simos and Xenios

A little aside on Arcarnus Limited No 4922212
That company was incorporated on 6 Oct 2003
as a Travel agencies etc; tourist business

At the time Xenios was involved in Holiday Visions Ltd 5247613; XTZ Capital Limited; 5668800; Arcarnus Solutions Ltd 5939713;and Arcarnus Group Limited 5487072.
Ill have to look them up later.
Unless anyone want to themselves? at...
    https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/

anyway out pal Xenios has form in the "not paying people" department with Arcanus

It seems that company dint pay HSBC for an unsecured loan or "debenture" and didn't pay the rent for the office to Knightbridge Green who hit them with a bill for £34,750 although looking at it that may have been their deposit on the property. Anyway it and the loan from HSBC are registered as "charges" against Arcarnus.

Registered office address was the same firm
C/O SPEECHLY BIRCHAM, 6 New Street Square, London, EC4A 3LX

It was dissolved on 17 May 2011 more about that below

But look who was involved in it...

    CARTER, James William

    Correspondence address
Pulmer Water Cottage, St Albans Road, Codicote, Hertfordshire, SG4 8SP

Role Secretary Appointed on 20 January 2004 Same guy who set up PPH

    KITIRIS, Simos
    158d Blythe Road, London, W14 0HD

Role: Director 'Date of birth April 1977 Appointed on 3 May 2006 Nationality Cypriot Occupation It Director

So he was involved in the setup at that time . the third founder of this company is

    THRASYVOULOU, Xenios
    Flat 7, 12 Ovington Square, London, SW3 1LN

Role Director Date of birth May 1979 Appointed on 10 October 2003 Nationality Cypriot Occupation Co Director

They then changed address to 283 GREEN LANES, LONDON, N13 4XS Which is an accountants firm
    GEORGIADES CHARALAMBOU & CO

In May 2009 it changed address again to Speechly Bircham the above firm.

After a threatened compulsory strike off notice ( they didnt seem to have filed annual returns) they returned 2009 accounts in 2010

There was about £29,000 ( 29,397.12) paid up in shares of three types A1 A2 and B1 and the shares were owned by another company Arcarnus Holdings.
    Then they filed 2008 returns
which show 500,000 A1 Shares worth £5,000 and 5.026 A2 shares worth £50.26 and 2,434,686 B1 shares worth $24,346.86 were all transferred from Arcarnus Group to Arcarnus Holdings. It seems no actual business was done and that was just a money go round from one paper firm to another. Actually Im thinking only a peeny was paid on each group of shares but I might be getting misex up with other personal holdings in the PPH company

In any case having moved to the holding company Arcarnus was dissolved in May 2011

SO who are Arcarnus Holdings Limited 06422036
Well this has all the PPH shareholders

    Incorporated 8th Nov 2007
and had £15,000 paid up in shared but was dissolved 28 June 2011

    or Arcarnus Group Limited?
    05487072 also dissolved 28 March 2009

Arcarnus group was previously called Arcarnus Holdings Limited Incorporated 21 June 2005

So the money go round seems to be setting upi companies with the same name then moving things from the older company to another company or renaming it and eventually dissolving the newer company.

One might think the dissolved company is the original one but it isnt and doesnt show where the original ownership went before it was dissolved and the new version with the same name and same people involved set up and then dissolved.

All looks quite fishy and this is just an aside on the main issue of PPH Limited?

Whats to bet PPH doesnt divest itself elsewhere and dissolve and a now PPH then be set up?
Well maybe not now that that tactic has been identified.

Nope your name is Katie Kitiris (note the s at the end of your name) and you are the wife of Simos

and you posed as a client of your own company?

As did he who was involved with Arcarnus YEARS BEFORE not six weeks

The safety of our marketplace is paramount. As part of our security measures we occasionally have to undertake extra steps to verify payments made on our site. As is standard practice that can involve asking for trusted forms of identify where it has not been possible to sufficiently verify a payment through other means.
Rubbish! Under what law do you have to verify the person you are paying who invoiced you for their work? fair enough if someone is PAYING YOU with a dud or stolen card but why would anyone ask you to PAY THEM into an account they did not own?

I have experienced the similar issues with PPH. They deducted some fees from my PPH accound for "not being active " within a sertain amount of time and when I asked to withdraw the rest of the money they requested the bank statement ( please note - in the PPH term &conditions is clearly said that its possible to withdraw money via PayPal). I sent them a shorten version of my bank statement, but they rejected pushing to provide a real one. Dont know what to do, because I do not understant why they requested it
