Seven Steps to a Best Selling Book
Oct 26, 2016
Lately, since I attained the International Best Seller status back in 2014 and #1 Best Selling Author on Amazon, I have had hundreds of inquiries about how to achieve such status. As many of you might begin to understand it is very much a compliment to get such inquiries, but then once the stream of questions and requests for assistance and advice continue to flow at a very high demand rate, it can become overwhelming.
My mind began to try to get a grip on how to be polite to those inquiring but also maintain my own mental sanity. There is only so much time in a day and as most of you might understand, I have to focus on those things that bring in money to pay my own family's cost of living. After much deliberation I decided to turn my dilemma into an opportunity.
I had in fact designed my own process that I followed that created my outcome of becoming a #1 Best Selling Author, so I decided that could be thus replicated by those interested as my own author assistance service to authors seeking to elevate their own outcomes to the best seller status.
The first step that every author must grasp is that getting a book published today is not that difficult depending upon how you desire it to come about, such as traditional publisher (usually found through a literary agent) or a self-publishing or hybrid publishing arrangement. Let's get this on the table. Self-publishing does not necessarily mean you are a second rate author or that you aren't a successful author. In fact, many of the best authors today own their own publishing company and sell their books through their own distribution agreements and use their own marketing and social media to drive their sales.
The process however to becoming a best seller does require a very focused effort by the author and a realization that there will be out of pocket expenses for the pursuit of this dream to make it a reality. There are no promises of success or attainment of the coveted Best Selling Author status, but without a worthy game plan your failure is almost undeniable. It is my opinion that authors that choose to follow my game plan will be very happy with the results and find the outcomes emotionally rewarding and potentially financially very lucrative.
There is a Seven Step Process to Becoming a Best Selling Author, that I can teach you if you are willing to take this journey. It requires your time, patience and money to execute the plan and see the results. If you are interested here are my coaching techniques as identified per major step or topic area;
1.) Writing the manuscript so that you stay focused on your intended story outcome and keep your writing more of story process than a technical process during your creative first stage of deciding to write a book.
2.) Organizing your writing so that it is the most commercially viable product that you can offer to the general public and considered highly professional and not amateurish. This includes several types of edits, each of which will require you to retain an editor for this specific type of editing. I can advise you on who to hire and how much to pay them (what is fair).
3.) Creating a realistic budget for the editing, distribution, marketing and publication format and graphic design of your cover and other elements of your book. Different types of service providers garner more or less fees for such choices and you need to base your choice on what will create the most favorable outcome for you, that is still affordable to you.
4.) Now we get to the critical evaluation stage of proof reading and eventually gaining endorsements for the book. You want to find the most credible endorsements that will shine favorably upon your work. This can be by way of back cover quotes or a formal opening foreward inside your book. You may have to hire proofreaders (you will want to in order to gain their professional unbiased opinion of your work) and you can hire or pay for endorsements, each comes with a decision process that is up to you to decide what is in your own best interest.
5.) Now you need to decide upon your path to publishing. Will you go traditional and thus seek a literary agent, which is a very challenging and laborious task, or will you choose to manage the publishing process by doing self-publishing or will you choose to hire a publisher, what I refer to as Hybrid Publishing. In this case you can really get into some very expensive choices and not all of those choices are credible and/or worthy of the expense. This also has to include all formats such as print (hardcover and paperback), Ebook and Audio Book formats. Remember that picking the right publisher is mainly about distribution access to the widest market and the most favorable cost to the general public and greatest return on investment to yourself.
6.) Pre-Launch of your book. No matter what publishing choice you make, in today's market the publisher not only expects the author to market the book aggressively to their own social media formats, but also to spend time and money on expanding their social media exposure and effectiveness. There are service providers for all these services, and again some are highly effective and others not so much.
7.) Attaining a high volume of book sales and pushing your book to climb the charts to attain if possible Best Selling Status. This is where as much effort is spent as when you first wrote your book. You will find that you will spend and enormous amount of time doing interviews, social media posts, getting book reviews, and looking for book exposure through book fairs, book club readings and publicity as you ever spent on writing the book. It can also be where an enormous amount of your actual realistic budget is used up. If your book is further worthy of being adapted to the television and/or feature film market, there is a further number of steps and expenses that can be undertaken if that either becomes apparent to you due to the popularity of your book and/or your dream of such adaptation is part of your vision for why you wrote the book in the first place. Those steps always come after these first seven steps have been executed and begun to show fruitful results.
