Well you might as well close it since only some people can say what they want to. I really don't care, I just don't like losing a member over it. This will be my last time posting in this thread so do what you want to.

We have a small group of "decision makers" here and by what can only be termed as a "fluke of happenstance" I'm in it. I am not 100% sure that I am always right in the decisions I make which is partwise the reason I try to make as few of them as I can. But I have an unusually high degree of confidence in the decision to keep political debate off this forum.

First off we have no need to argue politics here. There are many very fine or simply contemptible (depending on your political bent) forums to do that and they're only a Google away. One of my favorite posters back at the old place held political views and a style of discourse I found offensive, but he was a top shelf scam buster. I could compartmentalize my feeling for him only because I had the luxury there of never having to read the politics forum and only participated in all the other forums.

I don't have that same luxury here which is almost entirely why we don't have a politics forum here.

We've come a long way as a site from where we started. A few weeks in I made a simple configuration error that drew a large number of spambots to the site inflating our "most users online" number. It took us the better part of a year to beat that number (with real users) but today we have several times as many people online. I'd say that meant we're doing something right but that would only be accurate if I pointed out that all of you fine people are the biggest part of that "we."

I don't want anyone to storm off in a huff. I closed rather than deleted GoF's previous post because I wanted an explanation to be available. I'm not going to close this thread because there is an argument to be made. Of all the people who made the effort to contact me directly about my closing of the previous thread all have been supportive, that doesn't mean everyone feels that way. I really don't want this place to be a venue for political infighting but I'm open to discussing the issue. I'm not favorably motivated by ultimatums but I don't wish to push valuable contributors away.

In short, if we can't hold a civil debate over whether or not we should talk politics, I'm quite content to say perhaps we shouldn't.

grumpyoldfart, I am sorry if my decision makes you feel unwelcome. You are correct that you broke no written rule which is why we never treated you as if you had. I am sorry if I've given you offense, that wasn't my intention. Running a web forum is more an art than a science and I'm more of an abstract impressionist than a photorealist. I wont pretend to always make the right decision but I always will make sure that well intentioned argument adverse to my decisions is given a fair hearing.
So your prophets of finance have fallen on their collective proverbial face, and you hear muffled voices calling: Welcome to the human race.
You made a killing dealing real estate at NASA selling cemetery plots in outer space til some falling coffins crashed upon your doorstep: Welcome to the human race.

    Open up your heart...

    Welcome to RealScam.com.

It's no loss. The attention whoring seems to be more important than what this site is actually all about or he wouldn't be crying about it. He was given a very reasonable and polite explanation of why things are the way they are and he still decided to throw a tantrum.

    Let's not make things personal.
C'est la vie. What's done is done.

GOF may be strongly-opinionated and may not like that his thread was locked. But he does not need other member making snide remarks.

We're all on the same team here - let's just remember that.

You people can cover for him all you want. Apparently we're not 'on the same team' and you may want to lecture him on that since he was given a courteous explanation of why things were done on a forum he does not own, yet still had to cry about it. Just look at the title of this thread and you want to attack me about 'snide remarks'? Who the f is he? You can put him on a pedestal - doesn't mean anyone else has to. He sounds exactly like uncle fecal in his posts.

    Whip,

I'm not putting him on a pedestal - I don't even know the bloke.
I'm not lecturing either. The way things have been worded on all accounts have been terse.
GOF, Admin can 'dare' to lock the thread as it is their forum.

Whip, snide remarks are unnecessary though, are they not?
Did comments in regards to him 'crying' and 'attention whoring' need to be said?
    Flaming is completely impolite.

It is not a political debate and was never intended to be. Why would you risk losing a good member such as JP just because you are so frightful of his discussions and you don't agree with him. This US presidential election will soon be over, thank the Good Lord! It should not be something that would make you drive away a member.
    Hi Scratchy,

Thanks for your support, the original thread about Mitt Rumpy was supposed to be a bit of fun, I even didn't spell his name right that should have been a clue?

    Hi Judy,

The term devil dodgers refers to anyone who is a bible basher, mormon or jehova's witness.

GOF. If you are going to leave because of a political thread being closed on a forum whose purpose is to establish whether schemes are scams or not that is a shame. And no, I am not annoyed, just concerned.
    Hi,

I didn't think the thread was political just a bit of fun that has now got out of control, I agree with you that politics is a minefield and so is religion.

Glad to have you back. Hope you will have a look at some code that scratchy has put up on another RS thread for LRM and other techies to investigate. Your comments in this thread would be appreciated.

Post 288 onwards about what can be deduced from this source code. Does the poster have access to owner's c-panel

I know you have sweated your guts out to build an online business and taken some very hard knocks. Life is tough as a sole trader but it is better being a struggling sole trader than a paid shill like the majority of people who "work on the net."

This has taken on some of the flavor and vitriol of the old ALA posts.
It seems like in this "industry" common sense is not all that common!

Re: How dare you close my thread?

I really hate breaking my own comment that I would not post here again. Here is a message I sent to one of RS admins and had no reply. We don't need this happening and I am sorry I spoke out.
Would you please remove my comments from that thread?

How dare you close my thread?

I am totally not up to anymore controversy and sorry that I posted in any of them. I like John P. even if he is a GOF but he can protect himself.

Please try to make it more clear in the future for new members (or old) that politics will not be discussed and if someone starts a thread on it - remove the thread and notify them by personal message that it is not allowed. Public discussions against the member with rude remarks only add to the anger. I had the same thing happen to me when I commented on someone else's post. Everyone jumped on me when I did not know it was not accepted. I don't want politics discussed but I don't think members should be rude when someone breaks a rule they were not aware that was in the policy.

So, please if you can, remove the comments I have made. I will not be posting there again.

I appreciate the time and effort that the administration gives to keep RS running. I believe it is an important site and have tried to add to it, not take away from.

    Thank you,
    Sara

There was no response to my message. I want to make my position clear and agree with the decisions made by the admins. Now that ALA has been mentioned I felt it needed to be said as I do feel a little responsible for that person leaving because it happened right after I joined. I hope that the person returns and I do not want to feel responsible for anyone leaving. I am trying to get some more worthy members in here. Now, please, I want to be finished with this one there are more important things going on.

Re: How dare you close my thread?

This illustrates why we avoid the political talk arena. Even discussing whether to host such discussions got very heated. I respect everyone here and I am painfully aware just how heated things can get. I hope everyone has made peace with this and will move on!

I added the note in the rules thanks to Sara's kind reminder. We have a policy of not removing threads without good cause unlike many other forums that are caving in to scammers, but we do reserve the right of the admins to use their discretion in taking action when necessary. Please understand we do have an owner who pays all the bills and that the decision to avoid hosting political debate may not have been publicized, but was in place from day one.

    Thanks!

    Hi Judy,

I had no idea you were treated so badly when you joined this website forum, if I had known about it I wouldn't have joined. It seems that nearly all of the members wish to remain anonymous, I wonder why?

As you know I do not accept fools or morons gladly, so if they post something that annoys me they will get short shrift, so if my comments are unacceptable to some members they can go forth and multiply or words to that effect.
