    Re: IT Questions Here Please

I have sent Payol an e-mail with four word documents and a gif which a friend of mine could not open. My friend had worked with large computers for a very long time and and vowed that he would never use PCs but he found that he could not avoid having to change with the times. He may be slow to grasp some basics and be a bit shy about asking but HE IS NOBODY'S FOOL

Payol can open them on his mobile and he is going to see if he can open them on a PC in the morning and reply to the post here. I think the problem is that my friend needs some additional software or help opening the documents rather than me but I am not sure. My PC uses a bespoke hardware and software system designed by a local business.

I may be wrong but I will ask my friend to come to the site and read what advice Payol has to give us both. My friend would be an enormous asset to RealScam but he is extremely short of time at present. I hope that he will join RS one day, as he would be a tremendous asset to the British contingent at RealScam. He is an extremely skilled off line marketer who has never been a member of an Internet forum but he has read some posts here and passed replies on to colleagues in his off line network.

Thank you so much for opening this thread SBM. I bought my first office computer in 1979 and there are so many gaps in my knowledge becauses I am completely self taught. I am very shy about asking for help in public as relearning something you have been doing wrong for forty years is hard.

I had to relearn some things after a stroke in 2007, so my spelling can be atrocious at times. I am very grateful when people point out my spelling errors, so please do not think I will take offence, if any of you do that.

I remember typing my high school English term paper on a TRS-80 from Radio Shack or more properly referred to as a Trash-80 from Rat Shack. It had space invaders on it. The only electronic game I have any affinity for whatsoever!

"grumpyoldfart" sent me some software and instructions on how to save a page using a Winzip file but I can not use the free version of Winzip. I will ask him if I cam reproduce the answer he gave me here as others RS members could have the same difficulty.

Scratchy gave me some advice using another program which I do not have on my PC. I hope she can explain it in more detail in this thread.

LRM warned me not to go to the Home page of Collective Investments Forum to see what Hula and the rest of the pimps were up to.

I could not detect any trojans on the Home page after I had received his warning. Please can LRM or any others say if they find any infection after visiting it now

So, I can open the documents on my work computer.

To view the .doc files I'm using Microsoft Office Word - and to view the image I'm using Windows Image Viewer.

Your friend Robin my not have a document viewer.

I assume that you are talking about the Home page of Collective Investments Forum "poyol." If that is the case then they have got rid of the trojan and members here can see Hula (the MMG mod) pimping her wares on CIF. That scum bag will not be able to get away with it much longer.

I am very glad that we have people like you and LRM to point out when it is dangerous to visit a site and when it is OK. My security said CIF was clean but I wanted confirmation before I passed the news on to others.

I suggest using an AV and making sure your firewall is on whilst browsing certain websites.

On another note, did you speak to GrumpyOldFart re. reselling web hosting services for him?

Thanks Jason. I have bookmarked all the tools you suggested and found that Collective Investments Forum is not a safe place fror newbies.

    Trend Report Collective Investments Forum
    Is it safe?
    Dangerous

The latest tests indicate that this URL contains malicious software or could defraud visitors.

Scumware. I have just entered the url to their database and will see what results I get in about one hour.

WOT Reputation gives the site the lowest score ie very poor.

AGV threat labs says that there are six compromised pages.

If anybody wants to get themselves banned from MMG, he or she could ask Hula if she is still modding over there and why.

Hi Jason. GOF has just come into the forum. I suggest that you contact him directly to see if you can exchange e-mail addresses and phone numbers or send him a RS friend request as you can both understand technospeak.

He lives near you and I am sure that the pair of you could unearth some valuable information to help slow learners here. It is a bu--er when you have had a stroke as some things do get lost and it is very hard learning them again. I am still struggling with the instructions for my washing machine. It infuriates me having to get the instructions out and read them yet again.

Just a question about attachment sizes.
What are the guidelines for attachment sizes?

I posted this jpg with an original size of 450k but the forum has downsized it to 100k and makes it nearly illegible ...

    keep up the good work.

ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting is the website I'd use to host/share images, then you can post [bb] code/a link to share the image - then you may have it as big as you like!

Thank you Jason. I am leaving for work now but I will apply my mind to this when I return. I get tired after work as I am not as young as I used to be but I have all the information that I need in this thread to sort out the things that are bugging me. Hopefully my friend will also enefit from the help in the thread and be able to read the documents which I sent him.

Thank also to GOF. I will download the software you suggested as soon as possible and reply to your post.

    Re: IT Questions Here Please

Can anyone explain how to customise a profile e.g. change the tag of "scambuster" etc.?

    Why isnt reputation used?

Should we not have some recognition of more than 1000/2000/5000/10000 posts and grade users for 10/100/1000 etc posts to the fora.
We have about ten people on more than 1000 and ( admins and mods in any case also post on scams and rarely have to moderate with loads of posts) I think they represent a rather elite bunch of active RS denizens.

How do you change the other things around your name ?

Reputation is used, but I haven't messed with it enough to give you details. We can change titles for users at anytime and can do custom rank titles that are tied to the number of posts. Feel free to give us ideas here and I can go in and enter them.

    Thanks for the feedback!

Others have to click the star next to 'Blog this post' in the left lower corner to add to someone's reputation. One can not add to their own repz.

After logging in, go to the top right of your screen

    Left click on "settings"

In the resulting screen, go to "MY SETTINGS" on the left of screen

    Choose "Edit Profile"

On the resulting page under "Optional Information - All information will be viewable by other forum members"

Under "Your current user title is" check the "reset" box

Insert your preferred title in the appropriate box, then "save changes" on the bottom right of page and voile"

    Re: IT Questions Here Please

I want to include a picture in my post.

Only we know if you right click on the picture, the URL of most pictures are a mile long.

So I go to Google URL Shortener to make the URL a manageable length.

When I copy that URL into the "Insert Image" dialogue box, it's not recognized.

    Why is that?

Is there any other way to insert an image other than downloading it to your computer then uploading it?

Have been wondering about this for some time.

    Thanks!
