I used to really like Spencer Davis!!! I liked a lot of the old British groups! My fave from them was always Gimmie Me Some Loving. They are great!!!

You folks don't no nutin about disco. This was the second best disco song ever. Anyway I think it was but I was pretty strung out on mescaline, booze, speed, and mary jane back in those days. Fun days! (Then I discovered Landover Baptist Church and become whole.)

I have not heard that song in years, thanks for posting that. It sort of makes me sad in a way.

I often wonder when listening to todays music where did the creativity go?

I like some metal songs because of the creativity of those songs.

Before I retired, I worked at a nuclear facility which caused me a hours drive each way back and forth to work (for 30 Years) I love to read and I used to listen to audio books each way. The library has them so they are free and it gave me a enjoyable drive.

I have gone to some of the burial grounds of our soldiers, sometimes I have had to walk a few miles to get there as I cant just park my truck there of course.

I cant even begin to describe in words my emotions when I get there to pay my respect to our fallen heros.

    Re: What's everybody listening to....

I tend to get into these melancholy little moods late at night before bed sometimes. Thinking and worrying a bit, maybe some regrets....like we all do....the what ifs, my family, my own life, what is going on and what has happened with society, with governments, just reflecting upon many thing...........

It seems that the power struggles of civilizations have not really changed from the beginning of time. There will always be the peacemakers and always the war mongers. Those who seek power, triumph over others, over land, over their perceived righteousness, for monetary gains, for other reasons. Yet it is always the people, who have done nothing but simply try to exist and lead their lives who will be caught in the middle of what governments decide to do. The civilians, the innocents and finally the soldiers who must do the bidding of the never ending war machine. The nameless faces of all the humans who perish in the name of a cause. It seems to me, that nothing has changed really in the history of our planet in regards to conflict and war amongst it's human inhabitants. I was looking at this article last night.....
Faces of the Fallen: Iraq and Afghanistan Casualties | washingtonpost.com
and the faces and bios of the thousands of young men and women who have died thus far in the Middle East in the last several years and it just made my heart hurt. Enduring Freedom. Makes me wonder and perplexed. I think of Vietnam, of other wars and wonder how is the world really better for any of this? I have the greatest respect and admiration for soldiers believe me, but I am just thinking about how so many of us are used as pawns in some play that we do not even understand, nor agreed to and what the benefit truly is and what the reward of the final outcome if there ever really is one, or will be one........or is there just a Second Act, a Third Act and so on, with the final curtain call never really coming.

    Re: What's everybody listening to....

Coincidentally, your post comes only days after I watched the 2009 documentary "The Most Dangerous Man in America" which tells the story of Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers which lead to the end of the war in Vietnam.

One of the most chilling memories, other than being reminded that the war cost the lives of over 2 million Vietnamese and more than 50,000 US troops, was listening to an Oval Office conversation between Nixon and Kissinger in which they casually discussed whether to bomb levies and dams in Vietnam at an estimated cost of 200,000 lives or use nuclear weapons., Nixon telling Kissinger to toughen up and go down the nuclear route.

I think most of those around at the time honestly thought we had learned our lesson/s and such politically driven conflicts would never again happen in our time.

You know LRM, I often wonder how "we" can continue 'the save the world mentality' in this country, when we cannot even save ourselves.

I found it very poignant when you stated:"I think most of those around at the time honestly thought we had learned our lesson/s and such politically driven conflicts would never again happen in our time."

How little we knew, and we assumed incorrectly it appears.

There's very little which can "make my blood boil" but the sense of deja vu engendered by seeing that lunacy AGAIN on the nightly news in exactly the same fashion as we did then is guaranteed to trigger me.

Same lies, same justification/s, same political B/S, same rationalizing, same lies.

the only thing which has changed is that the background scenery is different.

    un-f******-believable.

LRM, I feel much the same way. I think of the thousands of lives, the trillions of wasted dollars, the destruction to life and property, society and culture and I see no real end, no verifiable accomplishment and no real justification (for the long run) in any of it.
