Phuc Dat Bich, the Australian man with a name so awkward no one believes him

November 21, 2015

He's the man with a name so unfortunate that no one believes him.
But Phuc Dat Bich has set the record straight.
The 23-year-old Australian with Vietnamese heritage posted a photograph of his passport online after his Facebook account was shut down a number of times because the administrators did not believe he was using his real name

"I find it highly irritating the fact that nobody seems to believe me when I say that my full legal name is how you see it," the National Australia Bank worker wrote.

"I've been accused of using a false and misleading name of which I find very offensive. Is it because I'm Asian? Is it?"
"Having my [Facebook] shut down multiple times and forced to change my name to my "real" name, so just to put it out there. My name. Yours sincerely, Phuc Dat Bich."

Although the photo was uploaded in January this year, it has recently attracted a flurry of international media attention, after the original post was shared more than 67,000 times.
Just for the record, Phuc Dat Bich is not pronounced how you might expect it to be. The Vietnamese pronunciation sounds like something like "Phoo Da Bic".
