San Andreas fault ready to blow

San Andreas fault 'locked, loaded and ready to roll' with big earthquake, expert says - LA Times

Our "earthquake kit" consists of a flashlight with dead batteries. I'm going shopping over the weekend.

Your mission, should you chose to accept it, is to find the date for the first mention of a SanAndreas fault warning by an "expert"

That's the thing that's scary. I haven't felt anything measurable in at least two years. Let's listen to the scientists and at least get the bare minimum supplies (like working batteries)

Mine was about 5 years ago? I was in Pasadena in an old brick building (and you know how those hold up in an earthquake). We were in the middle of a deposition, and the ceiling literally started coming down. Typical California story; we all got up and "assumed the alert position", but after several minutes of none of us getting cell phone service, and just a mild after-shock, we continued as usual. When I returned home, several paintings were knocked off the wall and dog was freaked

That was the last measurable quake, and that was only a 5 point something. I'm trusting the scientists on this.

Sounds about right, yep! The earthquake in Napa Valley that I felt was only 4.1; but, scary since there was a 6.0 earthquake there in 2014.

"Total damage in the southern Napa Valley and Vallejo areas was in the range of $362 million to 1 billion, with one person killed and 200 injured"...

They're now saying the Northridge quake of 6 point something is nothing for what we're in for with the San Andreas going off. Were you in San Francisco in '89?

I don't know about you, but when an earthquake wakes me up, I have an anxiety attack waiting for it to get bigger.

I felt the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989. Had friends who were at a baseball game in San Francisco at Candlestick Park when it happened; and, they had a heck of a time getting out of there...

If an earthquake wakes you up, it's no joke, I know the feeling...

Ugh....that was awful. Especially when they raised the freeway. Stay safe, everyone in California.

I just saw a poll asking if California should spend $23M for a system that could give 1 minute warnings before an earthquake.

Because I have to tell you, they're doing a good job. Having survived many earthquakes myself, it's never a good time. You're always waiting for "the big one."

What worries me is in the last two years we haven't felt much of anything here in Los Angeles. Maybe a tremor here and there, but that's nothing.

re: San Andreas fault ready to blow

I've been told since I was a child that when the next big earthquake happens in San Francisco, surrounding cities are all gonna fall into the ocean...

So, yeah, always waiting for "the big one"....

I know, but it's still scary. What disturbs me is I haven't felt anything measurable in about two years.

HeHe, when was the last time you saw a headline like this: "Yet ANOTHER year has passed with no sign the San Andreas fault is close to blowing"

You're exactly right, LRM..And how would this 60 second warning take effect? Will it be an air raid siren? We don't know, is the point.
