A Friend Asked Me About 5Linx

I have a friend who is concerned about his father-in-law partipating in a business opportunity called 5Linx. It seems to be some type of multi-level marketing company.

I've only started looking into it, but there are some red flags that have been discussed here before.

    1. 5Linx has a site which calls itself 5Linx University:

Calling something a University which isn't in a fact a University has been discussed
numerous times here. At this point I'm assuming that 5linx isn't actually a University.

This was just one of the issues with Trump University over the years:

Trump University Trump University was put on notice by the state Education Department
as far back as 2005 that it was not licensed to call itself a university and changed
its name to the Trump Entrepreneur Institute in 2010.

    2. Using pictures of people with fancy cars to promote its success stories:

    3. Pictures like this one.

OK, I'm not sure if that picture is a red flag or not, but it definitely made me laugh out loud.

Here are a couple documents I've found about the compensation plan:

Re: A Friend Asked Me About 5Linx

There's one site that 5Linx appears to own or control that seems a bit odd to me.

Here's a list of sites on the same IP with 5Linx.com:

One of the sites is 5LinxNigeria.com which shows 5Linx as the registrant:

    It redirects back to 5Linx.com

It just seems odd that they have a domain set up specifically for Nigeria.

In Jon Taylor's rebuttal to the DSA at the FTC in 2008 lists 5Linx in the Exhibit 2 - "DSA Member Firms that Qualify as Recruiting MLMs, or Product-based Pyramid Schemes" - in his 2008 "REBUTTAL of Comments from the Direct Selling Association regarding the Revised Proposed Business Opportunity Rule, R511993"
