Other than the fact it's now become obvious US residents aren't going to be refunded any time soon, it's interesting to note "taco123" STILL thinks MAP is a legitimate business and needs to avoid drawing more attention to itself

German leaders say that there was a "hacker attack" against maps causing that downtime.
Also: why don't they at least announce their maintenance? Would be much easier to handle :^)

Stealing is one of the methods of making it. Some of them pimp legit or semi-legit on top of illegal (hosting services, DDoS protection services, software), so I'm being broad on purpose. ;)

he knows map is almost done so he'll take orders and money, then when it collapses, will be nowhere to be found for refunds.

I think this is an example of what used to be called "vanity publishing". You can get anything published if you pay for it. Doesn't matter how rubbishy it is!

I cannot see any self respecting literary agency or publisher taking this on. It ain't going to be published by Penguin Random House, Harper Collins, Pan Macmillan or Simon and Schuster, is it?

Love the line about the "limited edition hardback edition". Perhaps old Simon only had enough money to pay for half a dozen of those; the rest are going to be run off on a photocopier when Jules is on her lunch break maybe?

By the way, our boy is still running his little ads in the back of the Mail on Sunday. "Entrepreneurs Wanted!" it says, and there's a new website to visit: NeverWorkForPaper.com. However, when you go these it takes you to the old "Simonmacmateme" page.

Same old p*ss, different shaped bottles IMO.

I'd like to think that WAS the next book in the series. I find it very depressing to think that our boy Simon probably will walk away unscathed, and that he is probably already brewing up his next little scheme. Even worse, people will probably follow him there. And when the next scheme starts growing, and the "haterz" start saying "Remember MAPs? Remember Banners Broker?" Simon's followers will start squeaking that "he was only an affiliate, he lost out too, but that didn't stop him trying again!" and all the other RUBBISH they have come out with this time.

I just wish that the UK authorities would catch up with him and DO something. Our American cousins seem to take a far more robust view - OK, not perfect maybe, but they seem to take these things more seriously. But if Simon was put out of business and made an example of, I am sure that would have a deterrent effect.

I hope so anyway.
