Let’s talk about the reality of multi-level marketing. MLMs are nothing more than pyramid schemes that our government allows to operate. When you participate in an MLM, you do not own a business. You’re not an entrepreneur. You are involved in a pyramid scheme in which almost everyone loses money. The behaviors are cult-like. And you will NOT be successful with MLM, so don’t bother trying to recruit your friends and family.

Multi-level marketing continues to thrive, and you can see the evidence all over Facebook, Instagram, and other social media. Several of your friends are inviting you to their party or they are posting staged before and after pictures and leaving cryptic messages that say “ask me how!” They often will not mention the name of the product they’re pushing, because they know they’ll lose you as a potential recruit if you Google the product before they can fill your head with lies about how good the product is.
Which companies are we talking about? Some of the most common names heard are Amway, Mary Kay, Herbalife, Avon, Isagenix, Legal Shield, doTerra, Market America, and Shaklee. But there are literally hundreds of these companies. Just about any company that shows you a product and then offers you an “opportunity” to buy the product at wholesale and/or make some money selling to family and friends is an MLM. Look for keywords like opportunity, compensation plan, sharing (“we don’t sell, we share!”), independent, and recruiting.

How prevalent is MLM? In the United States, between $15 billion and $30 billion is sucked out of the economy by multi-level marketing predators each year. You’ll hear MLM pushers say that this is an inaccurate characterization, as the money was used to buy products. Yes, some of the money went toward the products, but the products are overpriced and the quality is no better than what you could get in a drugstore or big box store. Distributors are wasting money on these products because they are buying more than they can ever sell or consume. And they do this because they must meet certain minimums to qualify for paltry commissions in the schemes.
Promoters will tell you that MLM is perfectly legal, so there is nothing wrong with getting involved. But just because the law doesn’t stop these companies from operating doesn’t mean they’re any good. Even though 99% of participants lose money in multi-level marketing, consumers still get sucked in by the millions.

People are lured in by the recruitment practices which have been perfected over the decades. New recruits are drawn in with personal connections and they’re made to feel important. These personal relationships are leveraged throughout the participation in the MLM, and they are used against the distributors when they try to get out. People don’t want to lose their friends and they will often continue to lose money in the MLM scheme instead.

Multi-level marketing companies are based on endless chain recruitment. They live or die based on the ability of distributors to constantly recruit more people. They make you think the MLM is about selling products, but it is not true. The products are used to make the schemes look like legitimate businesses, when the bottom line is that it is all about recruiting. Recruits don’t realize how quickly an area can get saturated from the recruiting activity. It’s inevitable when the participants are encouraged to recruit anyone and everyone.

Maybe the biggest problem with MLM is that no matter how hard you work, you are almost guaranteed to lose money. MLM supporters will claim that those who lose money just didn’t work hard enough. That’s not true. Simple math guarantees that almost everyone will lose money.

You can only make money if large numbers of people are recruited below you. That necessarily precludes almost everyone from making money, because they can’t recruit into infinity. As the pyramid below you gets wider, the new participants added have an even smaller chance of making money because there aren’t enough people in the world for everyone to make money.

No matter what your recruiter tells you, you aren’t going to make money. Those people bragging that they make money? Almost all of them are lying. They inflate their gross income, leave out business expenses, and otherwise flat out lie to you about making money. Of course they’re going to say they are making money. They are trying to suck you into doing what they’re doing. If they told you they were losing money, you wouldn’t join.

Here’s the bottom line: Recruiting others to recruit others into MLM is not a business. You are almost guaranteed to lose money. It’s not fun, and your friends and family don’t want to participate. Since our government won’t stop MLMs from operating, the only answer is to educate consumers so they avoid these scams.

Shaklee Pyramid Scam Plus Bo Short Info

Product-Based Pyramid Scheme?

When people are recruited into Shaklee's pyramid-like MLM, or "Product-Based Pyramid," they are given a sense of hope and excitement with unusual stories about Shaklee retailers who became "wealthy and independent" by marketing to their family and friends. Reality check: Read a post that the FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION published about Shaklee. Why do so many websites ask if Shaklee is a scam?

We found evidence that Shaklee has propogated the internet with sites that claim to discuss the "Shaklee scam debate" and find in favor of Shaklee. They are ready to pay for legal action to surpress the speech rights of their victims, with their victim's money. Will courts take this request and the money behind it seriously enough to entertain a case against victims' rights to speech and whistle-blowing? Because of the "discovery process" we hope so.

We cannot emphasize enough that while all the victims we know lost everything they invested, Shaklee does NOT meet the legal definition of a pyramid. MLM Expert, Dr. Jon Taylor has found that they might be even more destructive, but no matter which definition you like, keep your money in your pocket. This site is here to protect you from losing it. They lobby regulators and lawmakers and they threaten victims who speak out about their experience, as evidenced here. Research shows that young people are particularly vulnerable to their upbeat sales pitch but the group lures people of any age with charismatic and likable recruiters that seem to radiate Shaklee success. Fast forward to the outcome and you can often find victims of Shaklee feeling cheated and down several thousand dollars after having isolated themselves from friends and family with the company sales pitch routine. Victims of social marketing scams almost always end up with fewer friends and less money than when they joined. According to many, that is the reality of Shaklee.

Sleazy MLMs love to make lawsuit threats. Anything to hide the truth and keep the money from the warm marks on the bottom of the towering pyramid tricking up to the originators and goons at the top of the pyramid.

Shaklee "Scam" Risks

Anyone who subjects him or herself to spending an amount of time listening to a pyramid or multi-level-marketing scheme is susceptible to its well-crafted blend of facts and distortions. A Pyramid scheme aka scam works by combining claims of positive results with charisma and distorted evidence. Generally speaking, the more a person needs money and financial freedom, the more susceptible he or she is to losing both to a pyramid scam. Is Shaklee a scam? The truth may be that it's not about selling products, but about convincing your friends and family to buy-in to the company and become retailers under you. As you might guess, they will have to do the same and so it' may not be about selling anything at all. It may be about tricking the next group of people. Roughly 99.8% never make a dime at social marketing because they aren't supposed to. MLM Exprts agree that it is the most agressive, deceptive and unfair scheme allowed by law. Losing Your Friends

Before signing on with an MLM like Shaklee, you need to think about how you value other people. After the dishonest suggestions about the money you will earn and the need to buy-in, a common reason that pyramids are labeled as scams, centers on the way they encourage you to treat your friends. Victims of Shaklee and other MLMs can isolate themselves from their social groups very quickly. When you watch Bo Short in the video under the "Realizing the Truth" heading, it is important to think about what your friends would do and how they would feel if you began to incorporate a marketing pitch into your friendships. Of course, most people lose money in MLMs rather than making it, but when it's all done, it comes as a surprise to some that they have lost friends as well. Opportunity Support

The Shaklee company has some misguiding if not unlawful practices regarding refunds. When victims call 925-734-3636 to speak to "earning opportunity support" for a refund, they get 4-8 minutes of Shaklee ad recordings followed by a recording that asks for a telephone number so that the company can call him or her. There are documented cases of refunds taking up to two months and 10 hours of hold time. If you are considering becoming a Shaklee distributor, know the facts and make an informed choice. Put it this way, the FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION published a user post indicating that you will probably lose the money they convince you to invest. That part is simple.

Inflated Retail Price & Snake Oil

And yes, there's a catch. Shaklee products are generally priced 3-5x above retail market value. They work as well as any other soaps, vitamins or lotions but that begs the question, "Do I pay 3-5 times more because it's my darling/friend/grandson selling them if I can get the same thing for so much less at the local store?" You can buy network taps for less. For how long will your "customers" continue to pity and buy Shaklee products from you at such inflated prices? It doesn't take a gigabit network tap to see that anything sold over retail cost won't move in a free marketplace, and that's where magic comes in. As you will see from the Glacken Group, Shaklee distributors must routinely make inflated claims about the quality of these soaps, vitamins and skin creams. It's embarassing. And the products still don't move according to former distributors who contributed to this site. Do you want to sell snake oil?

Shaklees and John MacLaren

I left Shaklee with thousands of dollars in debt and broken friendships. In the 6 months that I lived through the wrath of the Shaklee product-based pyramid scheme within Bo Short's Pinnacle Group, I gained insight into the psychology of product-based pyramid schemes and into the nature of deception and confidence games. They surpass the criteria for a scam and so I am comfortable using that word since I lived through it. I lived through people telling me that Shaklee products would help or even cure my form of muscular dystrophy. It felt like a cult. I sought the advice of my endocrinologist in Rochester MN and he advised me not to take pills that Shaklee encouraged me to buy from them. -See Shaklee's Glacken Group under, Putting People's Health at Risk, at the top of this page. I was ridiculed to no end by fellow Shaklee distributors for following his advice. I also want to note that whenever people in Shaklee told me why someone might speak poorly about an MLM, it was implied that the person had simply had a bad experience with one and was generalizing or hadn't worked hard.


It saddens me that there are thousands of other stories like this. Many of you have already contacted this public service website and we will publish your stories when legal threats from Shaklee have ceased. Your voice and your right to speak out, will be safe here. This is more than my story. this is about all of Shaklee's victims. Everything I've written is factual. I was there. And the funny thing is that I approached this as a staunch skeptic, but failed to realize that the information online about the scam was a confidence game of misinformation, that it was all hacker SEO. I was coaxed into believing that I was "climbing into my dreams." I believed what they told me about money, and most of what they told me was untrue or incomplete. It sickens me that there are those who think this type of deceit in financial arrangements should be legal. The efforts put into public relations and hacker SEO by Shaklee, are truly outstanding. With their confidence game, Shaklee creates the convincing illusion that everyone who works hard at this earns money. It isn't true.


Don’t fault yourself it you too have been tricked. Join us. I can no longer stay silent about having been scammed nor should anyone else. Shaklee Corporation is a product-based pyramid scheme and as MLM expert Dr. Jon M. Taylor points out, these can be even more destructive than a regular pyramid scheme. Shaklee contributes money to lobbyists. So long as regulators overlook the systematic dishonesty and misrepresentation of financial data and arrangements by this company's "independant" distribuors, one might consider a product-based pyramid scheme like Shaklee to be legal. One would be incorrect.....



Shaklee is a company that reports about $500,000,000 in annual sales, but also has 700,000 distributors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaklee_Corporation). Therefore, Shaklee grosses only $714 per year per distributor. It is mathematically impossible for more than a fraction of one percent of distributors to be making the example five and six figure incomes from the brochure. In fact, if Shaklee's commissions were one-third of gross sales, then the average Shaklee distributor would be making less than $20/month before expenses. Shaklee's products and pyramid-sales business model are very similar to Amway/Quixtar's. Forbes Magazine has reported that the average Amway distributor netted only $780/year, but consumed $1,068/year in goods (http://mlmlaw.blogspot.com/2005/01/w...ve-to-say.html). Therefore, the average Amway/Quixtar distributor lost money. Because of similarities between Shaklee and Amway/Quixtar, it's likely that Shaklee distributors are also averaging losses. But Shaklee does not report the gross or net average incomes of its distributors in any of its business opportunity advertisements. Shaklee only reports exceptional incomes of salespeople in the 99-th percentile of all distributors. Those exceptional incomes are displayed in such a way as to make them appear typical, which is misleading and unethical. Shaklee recruits should also be told how difficult it is to sell products to customers because of their high prices. For example, Shaklee charges about $50.00 for a one gallon bottle of liquid laundry soap (http://www.shaklee.com/product/81295). Shaklee's three pound box of dishwasher detergent retails for $14.95 (http://www.shaklee.com/product/00288). Similar cleaning products are available for around one-fifth of the Shaklee price in grocery and retail stores throughout the country. But when Shaklee recruits distributors it never mentions that they will face an uphill battle justifying the high prices of Shaklee products to customers. Multilevel marketing companies attract recruits with unrealistic promises of income and don't warn potential distributors about the high prices of the products they will be selling. MLMs know that most of the distributors they recruit will lose money, but never tell them that fact. When advertising a business opportunity, all multilevel marketing companies including Shaklee should be required to tell recruits their product prices and the average net (after expenses) income of all distributors. If these requirements are added to the FTC's business opportunity rule, then MLMs will have to stop their common, but misleading and unethical practice of reporting only the average gross incomes of distributors at high levels in their pyramids.

We have joked that this Fast Track Dream Plan plan for Shaklee compensation is the same as taking a mirror, a bag of clown noses and an octopus -putting them in an industrial blender and spreading the result into a picture frame titled "Shaklee Compensation Plan" When someone asks what the plan is, you point to the picture frame, "That's the compensation plan. See?" That is the best way to keep these old threads alive and be sure people will not get ripped off by serial scammers like him. I am proud to have been sued 3 times by obvious scammers. Those scammers ended their shenanigans that way as the publicity assured they could not continue to defraud the public.

My name is Elizabeth Dopf. I was lured into investing in a Shaklee "business opportunity" because I believed the financial information given to me by John MacLaren and Bo Short was truthful regarding time and compensation. I submit this testimony shown in video/audio format below to federal law enforcement authorities, and I submit it as truthful under penalty of purgory Please note that the crimes I witnessed are still being committed to defraud current victims of Shaklee's Pinnacle Group.....

Elizabeth sought the $880 bonus promised her and bought herself in to the rank only to learn that she could not have the bonus for another three months during which time she would need to keep bringing in that same level of money, despite what she had been promised.After being denied the promised bonus for buying herself into the "director" level, Ms. Dopf's email records show routine requests to John MacLaren asking how the basic compensation plan worked and requesting to see her relationship to the company on paper to clarify who was in her downline and upline. The records show John refused to provide that basic information to her and we see emailed comments from John telling Betsy to stop asking questions and focus on getting him prospects

Taken together the following emerges: false claims about compensation plans were delivered online, in person via sms text message and emails causing Elizabeth to pay-in, allow her upline to control her purchasing, and even buy-in a friend to make "director," only to learn that she had been lied to and would not receive the bonuses promised. Another disturbing aspect of this secretive, business structure that Betsy was not permitted to lay eyes upon, despite being an "independent" distributor within it, was the fact that the official Shaklee compensation plan had no bearing whatsoever on the structuring and hierarchy of MacLaren's downline, which we see him arranging and rearranging by will in countless text and facebook messages. It is imediattly clear from these records that John is controlling not only his downlines auto-ship accounts from his own computer, continuing to stock them up with products that he knows aren't selling, but John is also controlling who is placed under who - all the while refusing to show these relationships on paper or in any form. John MacLaren gained full access to his downline's purchasing accounts and ordered increasing numbers of products with full knowledge that they were not selling and were stocking up on the downline's floor. This put money into Jon's account each time he did it. By any standard this removes the idea of a retail "product" from the picture because we see in the simplest form that the "Products" are being used as an internal currency unit to transport money up the pyramid to Mr. John MacLaren and those above him.

MLM is a math game that the vast majority of participants will lose. It is fraud by design. All the money flows to the few early entrants and originators at the top of the towering pyramid.

Why is he constantly jumping from one MLM scam to another? How many people that he has mentored have made a sustainable living with MLM? The claim by MLM promoters that many
participants work for part-time or seasonal
income is a bogus argument because
without full-time and long-sustained effort,
MLM participants cannot build and maintain
a large enough downline to meet expenses,
and therefore do not profit.

These conclusions were confirmed in the
average earnings reports of all 30 MLMs for
which we were able to obtain data published
by the companies themselves. Such statistics
are invaluable for analysts to debunk the
many misrepresentations that are told to
thousands of prospects every day.
Failure and loss rates for MLMs are not
comparable with legitimate small
businesses, which have been found to be
profitable for 39% over the lifetime of the
business; whereas less than 1% of MLM
participants profit.MLM makes even
gambling look like a safe bet in comparison.
MLM stocks are questionable
investments at best.And like gambling,
losses from MLM participation should not be
allowed as a tax deduction–beyond the
amount of actual income.

MLM as a business model is the
epitome of an“unfair or deceptive acts or
practice” that the FTC is pledged to protect
against. It is even worse than classic, no-
product pyramid schemes(for which the
loss rate is only about 90%) and“pay to
play” chain letters. For promoters to present
MLM as a “business opportunity” or “income
opportunity”is a misrepresentation.

I challenge buffoon Ronnie Branch to carefully study and then refute what the good doctor has published about MLM scams including this Shaklee crap. I had a productive conversation with the Police that came by today. He agreed she is going down a dark path and agreed defamation of character is clearly seen and he will be calling her. In conclusion I already know the law is not caught up with various issues like trolling,cyber bullying harassment etc. , however this video serves as a first step to helping bring self awareness and brand others as Cyber bullies. Hopefully one day new laws will be passed and this video can be used as a reference for law enforcement agencies to keep tabs on this site and especially the Admin for how she behaves in general.

Just as this site likes to brand people as scammers on a consistent basics without getting to know people properly I am doing my duty to branding these people as Harassment Trolling Cyber Bullies that think its ok to post images,gloat, make fun of others and write things about another without their permission and use the law as a reference as to admit to evading the law entirely of their wrong doing and knowing they likely can get away with this stuff. While some think its ok to work around the law as Heather likes to she only will continue to brand herself as a Cyber Harasser Trolling Bully that has serious mental problems and cannot work out issues when asked nicely. That is why I made this video to help bring self awareness of branding this woman of her issues. You can google her name and see the amount of lawsuits filed against her and she thinks its fun to wrack up lawsuits and complaints toward her holding trophy's to gloat about and harass people in many ways all the time. She has made at least 40+ messages telling my old life story which part of it is false of 10+ years ago on her site since I made this video.

If folks are looking for a reference about scams in general my advice would be to look for another resource where you can get good reliable information minus the many issues and drama spoken from above as realscam.com is not a reliable source of information in my opinion since Heather to me is an unfit admin mental health wise. I've come to realize this woman heather needs mental and spiritual help. I have read the many reports watched videos about her and how she behaves attacking other people for many years that have any sort of success or even failure in the past or present. it is not normal for people to obsess about many people for many years as this woman is not wired correctly like normal people are and trying to reason with her is most likely out of the question. Hopefully one day she will get the help she needs. What people do in their life is their business, remember folks to never let cyber bully's try to control, taunt and and do many things that is Ungodly. It is important to live a good life free of drama and respect people in general and most importantly what the bible teaches in how we should conduct and live our lives. In my opinion she really needs to focus on her own life instead of the lives of so many people and unfortunately more people to come until she either gets help professionally and from the bible otherwise her path will not be a good future as I do pity people like Heather and I have a sense of compassion for people that have mental illness and are liking suffering from not keeping their spirit fed with the word from the bible. This is why there are low class,middle class and upper class people being a small percentage of the population. Fitness is the same way there are likely more overweight and negative people in the world vs smart educated well mannered fit people out there in the world. To say it is a scam means they did not apply themselves and it isn't a scam. The only scam that took place was a person not applying themselves. This applies to MLM and many other things in life.

Corporate America Pyramids are designed for the employee to always be under management of various levels. In this Pyramid you must stand on your feet often depending on your job be stuck at a pay level for often times years before even advancing to a higher level for a pay raise. In comparison to MLM Pyramids which you can get a pay raise based on your leadership skills and personal marketing skill sets and the relationships you have developed. In the Corporate America Pyramid a lot of people often times are replaceable and can get laid off without notice meaning all the time invested is gone. Is this a scam ? No Its called Life and the same holds true about MLMs in which Heather calls a scam trying one business to try another until one finds their way. Pretty much everything I'd worked at I have found a level of success to enjoy so to me it was never a scam it was helping me grow as a leader and to lead me to a even better path. Of course Heather being filled with Drama has no understanding about success in general and how it works.

In a MLM Pyramid your pay is based on the size of your email list, your relationships with others and your skills and the money you put into yourself and business and no matter what happens in a MLM those are assets the business owner can use to build a income with any other business unlike the Corporate America Pyramid where as your stuck with just a reference in hopes of a higher pay only to not have time freedom in comparison to the MLM Pyramid even during the early phases of building. We all love to have time freedom and earning from the comfort of our home and many people do just that.

In conclusion it is better to build and get a pay raise often within your own pyramid along with having a large email list and relationships that become an asset instead of being stuck in a Corporate America Pyramid which people have to work 9-5 and never will reach the top of that pyramid nor have any real time freedom vs the MLM Pyramid... Applying oneself in an MLM will make no difference in a saturated market with an overpriced, overhyped product. I have better things to do with my time Heather and I am sure you'll love to copy and paste things like you always do. I don't take pleasure with my experience with Jake, I would gladly forgive any man who is willing to admit the error in their ways and set things right. We live and learn.

Perhaps Jake may someday come to understand this, but money is the root of all evil and anybody who mines these roots will corrupt themselves.
